The Campbell County Office of Emergency Management is taking steps to help residents prepare for potential disasters this weekend.

On Saturday, they are hosting a drive-through emergency preparedness drill and giving away emergency kits. The giveaway is scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon at the Campbell County Fire/Rescue Station 12 at 1050 Race Track Road in Alexandria.

The event, held in partnership with the Northern Kentucky Health Department and the Northern Kentucky Healthcare Coalition, will act as a point of distribution exercise, an emergency response strategy used during disasters to distribute critical supplies such as food, water and medication. This exercise will be activated on Saturday as part of a flood emergency simulation.

The first 200 vehicles to arrive will receive a free emergency preparedness kit.

Each kit is packed with items recommended by emergency response professionals to help households stay safe and self-sufficient during a crisis:

  • Weather radio with solar, battery, and hand-crank power
  • Reflective flashlight for visibility and safety
  • Rain gauge for flood risk monitoring
  • Room thermometer to track indoor temperature during extreme weather
  • Reusable hot/cold pack for minor injuries
  • Prescription pill organizer
  • Comprehensive first aid kit (gloves, antiseptic wipes, instant cold pack, tweezers, and bandages)
  • Durable emergency bag for easy storage in the home or vehicle

The kits are designed to support households sheltering at home, commuting, or caught in an emergency.

Campbell County also encourages residents to sign up for Smart911, a free alert system that delivers real-time emergency notifications—including weather warnings, road closures, and public safety updates—directly to phones, emails, or landlines.

To sign up, visit www.Smart911.com, log in, and select the types of alerts you want to receive and how you prefer to be contacted. For more information on Saturday’s event or emergency preparedness, visit Campbell County’s Emergency Management website.
