Carl Wicklund, who has served on the Kenton County School District Board of Education for over 30 years, resigned from his position Monday night.

“I was sworn in in 1992,” Wicklund said, “in another century.”

He cited his age as a reason for his resignation. The other board members and Superintendent Henry Webb commended Wicklund for his lengthy service. Webb especially pointed to Wicklund’s work on the district’s facility infrastructure and energy management.

Wicklund has served on numerous boards and committees throughout his tenure.

“What truly sets Carl apart is not the awards or titles, it’s his heart,” Webb said.

In spite of his resignation, Wicklund was optimistic about the district’s future.

“The one thing I learned…,” Wicklund said, “whatever children see, whatever children hear, whatever children are exposed to becomes a part of them until they pass away,” emphasizing the role educators play in children’s development.

“Keep up the good work,” Wicklund concluded on Monday. “That’s all I ask of you.”
