Spencer Jenkins, the founder and editor-in-chief of Queer Kentucky, has been nominated for Best Print Article from GLAAD, a well-known LGBTQ+ media advocacy organization, for his article “Noah J. Ricketts Brings the Bluegrass to Hollywood and Broadway.“
Queer Kentucky writes about events and people throughout the commonwealth, but much of its operations are based in Northern Kentucky.
“Spencer Jenkins’ work with Queer Kentucky has positioned the nonprofit as an essential voice in the region, connecting with over 1.4 million individuals across Kentucky, Ohio and Indiana in 2024 alone,” according to a press release from the organization. “Through its compelling content and advocacy, Queer Kentucky has become a powerful platform for fostering acceptance, driving meaningful conversations and uplifting diverse experiences.”
“When I started Queer Kentucky in 2018, I wanted to use storytelling to uplift the voices of the average LGBTQ+ Kentuckian and show the world that we exist and thrive regardless of living in a red state,” Jenkins said in the same release. “I never thought Queer Kentucky would garner an international reach, but it is clear that the world is invested in the stories and lives of LGBTQ+ Southerners. We have such unique stories to tell and Noah Ricketts and his journey to stardom as a Black, Queer man from Kentucky is proof of that. I am so grateful for this nomination because not only does it validate my own personal work, but it also cements Queer Kentucky’s name and its stories into the national media industry forever.”
The GLAAD Media Awards will take place in Los Angeles this March. You can learn more about Queer Kentucky at queerkentucky.com.
