A new restaurant has officially opened in Newport on the former site of York Street Cafe, which closed in July after 30 years of operation.
Called McCollum’s on York, the restaurant is the brainchild of Richard McCollum, who served as the head chef of the York Street Cafe in its latter years. The restaurant has dubbed itself the “new American bistro,” according to a press release from the owners.
“We are excited to welcome back our old customers and new customers,” said Jennifer McCollum in the press release. “The interior has been beautifully renovated, with the patio and parking lot being renovated this spring. The space is beautiful and really was a testament to the love we have for the old building. We appreciate the legacy that was built and love to hear stories of people who had many firsts in our building.”
A lounge space in the restaurant is expected to open sometime in January, but the restaurant is currently taking reservations just in time for the holidays. Current operating hours are Tuesday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., as well as Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
