Campbell County is partnering with the National Weather Service to help the community prepare for winter.

As icy weather approaches, Campbell County is reminding people to “Be aware, be prepared, have a plan.”

Snow, ice and freezing rain can lead to slippery roads, power outages and school or business closures. To help everyone stay safe, Campbell County is working closely with local fire departments, road crews and first responders.

What you should know:

In your home:

  • Make sure smoke alarms and weather radios have fresh batteries.
  • Use space heaters safely by keeping them away from curtains and furniture.
  • Always use generators outside and far from windows and doors to prevent harmful fumes.

In your car:

  • Pack an emergency kit with water, snacks, a blanket and kitty litter or salt for traction if you get stuck on ice.

Stay informed:

  • Watch or listen to weather updates on the news or a weather radio.

Winter Safety Tips:

  • Avoid driving during bad weather unless necessary.
  • Allow road crews time to clear and treat the roads.
  • Follow the Campbell County Office of Emergency Management Facebook page for more safety updates.
