Cold Spring Mayor Angelo Penque provided an update Wednesday afternoon on the ongoing power outages following Tuesday’s severe weather.
“Duke Energy has declared a Level 3 storm emergency and has additional crews working throughout the region to assess damage and make repairs,” Penque said in a Facebook post. “Duke Energy trucks and crews have been seen throughout our area, working to assess damage and facilitate restoration.”
Duke Energy is prioritizing restoration in the following order:
- Facilities that support public health and safety
- Outages affecting the largest number of customers
- Remaining outages until all customers have been restored

“I know this situation is frustrating and difficult, particularly for those who have been without power for an extended period,” Penque said in the Facebook post. “Please know that the city is continuing to monitor the situation and communicate with Duke Energy as information becomes available.”
The Cold Spring Community Center is open and available to residents who need a place to charge their phones, heat up lunch, or use the meeting room for quiet work while without power.
Penque said the city will continue to keep residents informed as it receives additional information.
