Increased traffic and congestion due to closures on the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge has many drivers frustrated with increased commute times and other inconveniences.

So what are people supposed to do about it?

People can take several alternative, albeit longer, routes to avoid increased traffic on the bridge. A little planning should help drivers avoid the worst of the slow-downs, even if the distance traveled to their destination increases. Consult the maps and lists below to help you better plan for your trip.

All southbound lanes on I-471 are still closed at the Ohio River.

The following closures are currently in place on the Ohio side, according to the Ohio Department of Transportation:

  • Liberty Street access to I-471 is closed.
  • 5th Street access to I-471 is closed.
  • U.S. 50 East and West access to I-471 is closed. (U.S. 50 remains open to thru traffic.)
  • Pete Rose Way/Riverside Drive is closed under the approach.
    • Eastbound Pete Rose Way motorists may use Eggleston Street.
    • Westbound Riverside Drive (U.S. 52) should divert to Columbia Parkway (U.S. 50).
  • The parking lot under the bridge approach, adjacent to Pete Rose Way, is closed.
  • The sidewalk on the north side of Pete Rose Way, between Eggleston and Kilgour, is closed. A pedestrian detour has been established through Sawyer Point Park. Remember, the park is only open between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. For your safety, do not walk around closures or barricades.
