The City of Covington performed the first reading of a new ordinance Tuesday that regulates licensing for live-in addiction recovery centers in the city.
The move follows the passage of House Bill 246, which amended definitions for recovery residences, established conditions for operating clinical services at facilities, and enabled local governments to impose fines on uncertified facilities.
The bill follows the passage of two other laws related to recovery centers in 2023, one of which aimed to increase oversight of unlicensed facilities. If passed, the ordinance will align city regulations with state regulations.
Key parts of the ordinance include a licensing requirement for centers, regulations regarding the posting of licenses and new inspection requirements.
