The Campbell County Fiscal Court passed a resolution to participate in the Kentucky Ohio River Regional Recreation Authority, also known as KORRRA.
House Bill 712, which created a river recreation authority for 25 counties bordering the Ohio River, including Boone, Kenton and Campbell, was signed into law in April. However, the authority is preliminary because at least 11 counties must sign on for it to be created.
KORRRA is modeled after the Kentucky Mountain Regional Recreation Authority, established in 2019. That effort is helping to build an ATV (all-terrain vehicle) trail system in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky.
The county also appointed Campbell County Judge/Executive Steve Pendery to represent Campbell County on the KORRA board of directors.
“By passing this resolution, we agree to its creation,” Campbell County Administrator Matt Elberfeld said. “Judge Pendery will be on the board, and then we can kind of see where it goes from there in terms of what the funding looks like for different things. I think it’s an opportunity to get in early so that we can help guide the creation of activities.”
Besides Boone, Kenton and Campbell, other target counties in HB 712 are Ballard, Boyd, Bracken, Breckinridge, Carroll, Crittenden, Daviess, Gallatin, Greenup, Hancock, Hardin, Henderson, Jefferson, Lewis, Livingston, Mason, McCracken, Meade, Oldham, Pendleton, Trimble and Union County.
