Work to correct conditions resulting in landslides along roads in Burlington and Petersburg is expected to begin soon, Boone County Assistant County Administrator/County Engineer Rob Franxman said.

“For the last few years the county has elected to repair multiple landslides utilizing the Kentucky Transportation Master Agreement with Geostabilization Incorporated,” Franxman said. “The master agreement is a competitive bid contract maintained by the state that can be utilized by counties and municipalities as well.”

The contract calls for the firm to evaluate each slide location — specifically, to design and build a soil nail retaining wall that fits into the bid items of the agreement and warranty the repairs for five years, Franxman said.

“The work repairs landslides on Easton Lane, Woolper Road, Ashby Fork Road and Martin Road and on issuance of a purchase order, GSI is expected to nearly immediately mobilize into the county and begin repair work,” Franxman said.

Easton Lane and Martin Road are in Burlington; Woolper Road and Ashby Fork Road are in Petersburg.

The project is greatly needed, Boone County Judge/Executive Gary W. Moore said.

“These residents on these roads have dealt with these slides for years,” Moore said.

During its most recent session, the Boone County Fiscal Court voted to approve the project.

The project’s design life is expected to be 75 years, Franxman said.
