The Boone County Sheriff’s Office has announced a possible break in a 45-year-old cold case.

The sheriff’s office sent a press release announcing a press conference at their headquarters in Burlington at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, where they will present “significant developments” in the murder investigation of 16-year-old Carol Sue Klaber.

Klaber, a Fort Wright resident and a Dixie Heights High School junior, was found dead along Chambers Road near Union on June 5, 1976, according to Kentucky Post archives.

Reports said she was raped and beaten to death with what appeared to be a tire iron.

Klaber was last seen by a neighbor, who watched her get into a car in front of her home, according to reports.

LINK nky will provide updates on this story as they become available.
