Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Wednesday that the Department of Transportation awarded nearly $3.2 million to Kentucky communities so they can develop comprehensive road safety plans. The Northern Kentucky Area Development Fund received $183,238.
The funding comes from the passing of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which was officially signed into law on Dec. 15, 2021 by President Joe Biden. McConnell was one of 19 republican senators who voted for the act.
Under the act, the Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program was established, which is the basis of the funding announcement.
That legislation will give Kentucky billions of dollars over a five year period to improve the Commonwealth’s infrastructure services such as roads, bridges, railroads, riverports, airports, broadband and more.
