Drivers may want to be mindful of their highway habits along Interstate 75 as local law enforcement prepare a traffic blitz to cut down on road rage incidents and traffic fatalities.
On Sunday, Aug. 21, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., law enforcement agencies from Kenton County will be monitoring the I-75 corridor from the Kenton County line to Donaldson Highway, and all the way to the Ohio River in Covington to reduce collisions caused by aggressive driving.
In 2021, more than 800 people died in traffic accidents in Kentucky, and more than 400 have died so far in 2022, according to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet data. In Kentucky Highway District 6, which encompasses Northern Kentucky, there have been at least 24 traffic fatalities this year.
According to an announcement made over social media, police officers from Covington, Erlanger, Fort Mitchell, Park Hills, Villa Hills and Kenton County Police departments received a grant from the Kentucky Office of Highway safety “in an effort to reduce the number of traffic crashes and deaths related to traffic crashes.”
Companies that advocate for safe driving advise leaving early whenever possible to eliminate the need to speed through traffic, and to stay away from aggressive drivers on the roadway. Insurance companies also offer defensive driving courses to help drivers understand how to keep themselves safe from road ragers and prevent becoming enraged themselves.
