The Campbell County board of education named Dr. Shelli Wilson the district’s new superintendent.

She will assume the role on July 1.

Dr. David Rust, the current superintendent, is leaving the post at the end of June.

Wilson is currently an associate superintendent in the district, a position that she has held since 2006. She has also served as an assistant principal at Campbell County High School and a principal at Donald Cline Elementary.

In an announcement, the district cited Wilson’s experience in oversight of curriculum, instruction and assessment, facilities planning, finance and federal programs.

She was named Northern Kentucky Children’s Inc. Principal of the Year in 2005, an Outstanding Woman of Northern Kentucky in 2012, a Champion for Education – Vision 2015, a Spirit of Northern Kentucky Region Awardee in 2018, and received the A.D. Albright Administrator of the Year award in 2021.

“Campbell County School District is a very special place,” Wilson said in a statement. “I have served the district for over 20 years and am honored to take the district to the next level of excellence.

“As a resident of Campbell County, I have seen firsthand the strength of this community and the dedication of our educators and staff. Together we can continue our work in transforming CCSD into a district known for consistent excellence and equity, transparent and honest communication, and a commitment to ensuring students are ready for college, career and life.”

In the announcement of Wilson’s hiring, the district also cited her ability as a grant writer. She has helped secure more than $17 million of competitive grant funding, the announcement said.

“I am 100% confident in Dr. Wilson’s ability to take Campbell County Schools to the next level,” Board of Education Chairperson Janis Winbigler said. “Under her leadership, the sky is the limit!”
