Law enforcement on site at Highlands campus to investigate threat

UPDATE, 12:13 p.m. 

According to District officials, the threat has been thoroughly investigated and found to be unsubstantiated.  Students are now returning to class.

Police from Fort Thomas, Southgate, Newport and K9 units from Cincinnati are actively investigating a phone-in threat at Highlands High School in Fort Thomas. 

The high school and sidewalks in front of the building have been closed to pedestrians and thru-traffic. 

The District released the following statement. 

“On Monday morning, September 13, Highlands High School temporarily relocated all high school students to outside of the school building to an isolated location on campus.  This is in accordance with the school’s emergency management response and due to the receipt of a specific, called-in threat that included a potential bomb.  All students and staff are safe and accounted for.  Law enforcement officials and emergency responders are on site to fully evaluate the threat.  In an abundance of caution, FTIS is in full cooperation with law enforcement officials.  Until the situation is resolved, we expect all students to remain on campus.

The campus of Highlands Middle School has been alerted to the matter yet no threat has been validated there.   They are continuing to function with operation of teaching and learning.”
