The city of Newport along with the Newport Business Council will host the Monmouth History Crawl on Thursday, June 4 starting at 4:30 p.m.

The event is run by the city and Newport Business Council volunteers and researchers, with a sponsorship from the East Row Historic Foundation. The city has also worked with the Campbell County Historical and Genealogical Society to bring a knowledgeable and fun experience to all who participate.

“We have a dedicated team of researchers, business owners and community members who have worked hard to put this event together,” said Jennifer Williams, historic preservation officer with the city of Newport. “We’re excited to show visitors what we’ve learned through our research, but we’re just as excited to talk to community members and learn from them. History isn’t a place you go visit; it’s right where you are, and it belongs to everyone.”

The Monmouth History Crawl begins at Carnegie Hall located at 401 Monmouth, at 4:30 p.m., where participants can check-in and receive their booklet with information on the featured sites. Walk-ins will be accepted but it is strongly encouraged to register ahead of time as walk-in registrations are not guaranteed a booklet.

The history crawl will feature 14 historic sites down and around Monmouth Street. All the locations will have posters with images and information about that site. At the end of the crawl, at 6:30 p.m. there will be a raffle at 927 Reserve. The raffle is open to the public, featuring prizes provided by Newport businesses and the historical and genealogical society.
