Ryle High School made their way to the Winter Guard International’s World Championship in Dayton, Ohio, where they placed 20 out of 123.
Because of their high rank, the team secured their spot at the Scholastic A World Championship Finals, one of the only schools in Kentucky to make it that far in the Scholastic A class.
The only other school to make it was Paul Laurence Dunbar High School from Lexington in 2005 and 2013.
Similar to Color Guard, Winter Guard is done indoors in a gym, typically to a soundtrack of music with tarps, props and uniforms to a theme.
This year’s performance was called Particles, which was about personal growth as team members moved building blocks throughout the floor during the production, rearranging them until they find just the right form.
“A gripping dance statement builds into a gorgeous final flag feature that demonstrates their impeccable skills and showcases their belief in their production’s overall meaning,” said the Winter Guard International’s wesbite.
