A man is dead after a car crash near Union.
Bennett Allen III, 22, died after his vehicle crossed a center line on U.S. 42 near Rice Pike and struck another car headed in the opposite direction.
Allen, of Union, was headed westbound when his 2001 Pontiac Grand Am struck a 2015 Jeep Compass. He died at the scene.
The driver of the Compass, Teresa Taylor-Lanigan, 43, of Union, was taken to a Florence hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
Deputies believe that speed and rain were factors in the crash.
