William Woods, a Florence resident and self-described “Reagan Conservative,” has filed to run as a write-in candidate for Boone County judge/executive.
Woods announced he decided to run after receiving encouragement from some Boone County Republicans, Democrats and Independents, who saw him as an alternative to the current GOP nominee, Chet Hand.

“Boone County has been my home for more than three decades, and I am running for Judge/Executive to protect our county,” Woods said in his campaign announcement release. “Our residents deserve a transparent leader that is accountable to the people; not a political party or special interest group. My only interest is serving our citizens; ALL citizens. I’m ready to lead on day one.”
Woods’ name will now appear on the general election ballot on Nov. 3, along with Boone County Commissioner Chet Hand and Timothy Dean Johnson, a libertarian-leaning independent.
Hand, the race’s presumptive front-runner, narrowly defeated longtime Judge/Executive Gary Moore in the hotly contested GOP primary on May 19.
