The City of Covington’s Public Works Department will start its annual Leaf Pickup and Street Sweeping Program on Oct. 20. The program will operate on a scheduled basis through Dec. 16.
Leaf pickup will continue citywide through Dec. 31 before crews switch their vehicles for snow removal.
City crews will rotate through neighborhoods based on tree coverage, focusing on areas where leaves often clog gutters or gather along curbs. Residents must move their vehicles on scheduled pickup days to give crews access to the street.
Residents can check their pickup schedule using the city’s interactive Leaf Pickup Schedule Map, which lists two dates for each street, one for the north or east sides and another for the south or west sides. Temporary “No Parking” signs will be posted at least one business day before work begins.
Residents should rake or blow leaves to the curb, not into the street, the day before their scheduled pickup. Leaf piles should be free of sticks, branches, and other yard waste, and kept clear of parked vehicles, fire hydrants, mailboxes, and landscaping.
Formal operations will end Dec. 16, though leaf collection will continue through the end of the month, weather permitting. After that, crews will prepare vehicles for winter snow and ice removal.
More information, including the interactive map, can be found on the City of Covington’s Leaf Collection webpage.
