Newport Central Catholic 40, Boone County 0
Holy Cross 45, Clermont Northeastern (Ohio) 15
The Indians are off to a 3-0 start for the first time in program history with the road victory in Ohio.
Brian Ferguson threw four touchdowns and rushed for another as Holy Cross scored 45 unanswered after surrendering the first touchdown of the game. Braylon Thornberry caught two of the touchdowns, Xavier Thornberry and Max Hunt with the others. Charles Oglesby and Dustin Wilson added rushing touchdowns as they’ll look to go to 4-0 with a contest against Holmes looming next week.
Lloyd Memorial 40, Conner 27
Kaleb Evans threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns as the Juggernauts improved to 3-0 on the year.
Colten Barger was Evans main beneficiary, hauling in four passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns. Alijah Griffin added 78 yards receiving and a score. Avery Conrad and Lincon Tomlinson combined for 191 rushing yards, totaling three rushing touchdowns, Tomlinson with two of them.
The Juggernauts led Conner 28-7 at the half and 40-13 after three as the Cougars (0-3) were able to put up their first points of the season, getting shut out in the first two contests. Grayson Montgomery threw four touchdown passes in defeat, hitting Ayden Depenbrock for three of them.
Highlands 55, Campbell County 13
After leading 27-13 at the break, the Bluebirds scored 28 unanswered in the second half to pull away in this battle of Campbell County teams.
Rio Litmer threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns as 13 different Highlands players caught a pass. Highlands churned out 559 yards of offense, 183 of them on the ground with five rushing touchdowns. Eight different players scored a touchdown for the Bluebirds as they improved to 3-0.
Lucas Anthrop threw the two touchdowns for the Camels, finishing with 129 yards passing and 49 rushing as they dropped to 2-1.
Covington Catholic 62, Simon Kenton 15
After a turnover plagued start from both teams that combined for five turnovers, CovCath scored 35 points in the second quarter to take a 42-15 lead into halftime.
Cash Harney rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns while throwing for 139 yards and a touchdown. The Colonels defense forced five turnovers, one of them resulting in a touchdown as Gabe Weis earned a pick-six.
Dylan Gaiser added three rushing touchdowns for CovCath (1-2), picking up their first win of the season.
Simon Kenton’s (2-1) Grant Webb threw for 130 yards, Landon Brown the leading rusher with 15 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown. Moise Smith’s 89-yard kickoff return provided the Pioneers other score.
Walton-Verona 33, Ludlow 28
Andrew Lynn’s touchdown with 20 seconds remaining helped the Bearcats (1-1) escape Ludlow (1-2) with a thrilling victory.
The Panthers led 28-21 with eight minutes remaining, but the Bearcats scored two touchdowns in the final 3:59.
Newport 35, Gallatin County 6
Newport scored two touchdowns late in the first half to break a 7-0 stalemate and improve to 2-1 on the year.
Kendall Buck-Barber was the show at Newport stadium, rushing for 206 yards and three touchdowns while also adding an interception on defense. Buck-Barber’s interception was one of five for Newport on the night as they allowed just 83 total yards of offense.
Kayveion Sharp and Carvonta Roper added rushing touchdowns for Newport.
Pendleton County 21, Bellevue 19
The Tigers led 13-0 early and 13-7 at the half before the Wildcats rallied for a home victory. After a long touchdown from Pendleton to make it 14-13, Bellevue answered to make it 19-14 with 5:46 to play.
The Wildcats scored late to snap a nine-game losing streak.
After three games to start the season on the road, Bellevue (1-2) gets their first home game of the season next week against St. Henry on their newly installed turf field.
Bishop Brossart 55, St. Henry 3
The Mustangs led 28-3 at halftime and 42-3 by the end of the third to initiate a running clock in this one.
Green County 48, Holmes 12
Owen County 48, Dayton 6
Clay County 20, Scott 14, suspended at halftime
The game hit a long lightning delay and was suspended at halftime until October 3. They’ll resume then in Manchester then as both teams happened to have a bye week that week.
