Week 1 KHSAA football scores from around Northern Kentucky:

Ryle 26, Covington Catholic 20

Highlands 21, Frederick Douglass 20 (2 OT)

Anderson (OH) 52, Cooper 10

Simon Kenton 20, Dixie Heights 10

The Joe Wynn era starts off with a victory as the Pioneers win a fourth straight matchup over Dixie Heights.

After a nearly scoreless half, Landon Brown ripped off a 65-yard touchdown with 1:48 to play to give the Pioneers a 6-3 lead at the break.

Jordan Pendleton made it 13-3 with under four minutes to play in the third with a three-yard rushing score. The Colonels got within three at the end of the third on a four-yard rushing touchdown from Nishawn Golsby. Simon Kenton’s knockout blow came on a Forest Hughes 32-yard touchdown reception from Grant Webb with eight minutes to play.

Brown rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown for the Pioneers, Webb throwing for 114 yards and a touchdown.

Mason Fields tallied 216 yards through the air for the Colonels. Parks Vonderhaar was his lead receiver with five catches for 93 yards.

Madison Central 43, Conner 0

The Cougars had a rough night in Richmond. Madison Central’s Jeff Hairston returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and the Indians never looked back.

An interception and then a fumble in the end zone put Conner in a 29-0 hole by halftime. A fourth Conner turnover helped the Indians got the game to a 43-0 advantage by the end of the third.

Things don’t get any easier for Conner, facing Ryle next week.

Campbell County 58, Scott 40

The Camels exploded for 34 second half points in this shootout in Claryville. Ayden Earls was named the Camels MVP as he returned two kickoffs for a touchdown and caught two more touchdown passes on four catches for 83 yards.

The Camels returned three kickoffs for touchdowns in total, Tyler Schmitt with the other. Cooper Lairson, Lucas Anthrop and Xander Guy all rushed for touchdowns, Anthrop and Guy with the passing scores. The Camels defense forced four turnovers, recovering three fumbles and picking off a pass.

Trey Cook threw for 381 yards and five touchdowns for the Eagles, earning MVP honors for the team. He had two 100-yard receivers, Justin Hardy with nine catches for 120 yards and a touchdown, Aaron Hampton with three catches for 112 yards and two touchdowns. Luke Tomlin added 66 rushing yards and a touchdown for the Eagles.

Gallatin County 28, Dayton 24

The Greendevils led 16-7 at half and 24-21 late before the Wildcats scored the game-winning touchdown with 25 seconds remaining.

Bellevue 34, Trimble County 20

Bellevue led 25-0 at halftime before coming home from Bedford with a victory.

Trimble got within 25-14 in the third but the Tigers started their first of three road games to open the season in the win column.

Tristan Woodyard ran for 148 yards and three touchdowns while Carson Scott added the other two rushing touchdowns. Bellevue’s defense forced seven turnovers, recovering three fumbles and picking off four passes. Kayne Ross had two of the interceptions as the defense allowed just 107 total yards in the contest.

The Tigers travel to Carlisle to face Nicholas County next week.

Bishop Brossart 15, Walton-Verona 7

The Bearcats lone score was an interception returned for a touchdown to give them a 7-6 edge. Brossart took a 12-7 lead into the break and added a field goal in the third. That was it in the scoring department for the evening.

Landon Spaulding threw for 145 yards and two touchdowns for the Mustangs. Nicholas Cozzi and Issac Amin on the receiving end of those scores. Anthony Schuck added 90 yards rushing on the ground.

Brossart’s defense forced four turnovers and allowed 42 total yards, getting 10 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

Lloyd Memorial 47, Newport Central Catholic 14

The Juggernauts led 26-7 at half and got the game to a running clock in the fourth with a 47-7 advantage.

Kaleb Evans threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns, Lincon Tomlinson and Avery Conrad rushed for touchdowns and Colten Barger and Isaiah Jones had the receiving touchdowns.

The Juggernauts defense tallied six sacks.

Newport 47, Ludlow 7

Newport controlled this one from the jump with leads of 14-0 after one, 33-7 at the half and adding two touchdowns in the second half in the running clock victory.

Kendall Buck-Barber had 149 rushing yards and a touchdown and also added an interception. Kayveion Sharp also had an interception and returned it for a score.

Newport’s defense tallied 10 tackles for loss and allowed just 86 total yards.

DeMarco Jackson added two receiving touchdowns for the Wildcats.

Newport rushed for 242 yards in the win. Carvonta Roper rushed for two touchdowns, Sharp with the other.

Boone County 32, Holmes 0

The Rebels led 25-0 at half to claim the shutout victory.

Michael Chiasson threw for 200 yards and three touchdowns in the win. William Randall was on the receiving end of two of them, totaling three catches for 102 yards. Amare Newberry caught the other.

Steven Johnson rushed for 86 yards and a touchdown while Javier Diaz had the other rushing score.
