The ceremony will include a wreath laying, dedication of a granite SAR Revolutionary War marker and musket salute.
James Shaw was born in Belfast, Ireland on March 5th, 1757. He migrated to America around 1770 and settled in York County, Pennsylvania. In 1774, at the age of 17 he joined the military and did valiant service in the Revolution. James fought in battles at Three Rivers, Albany Retreat, Trenton, Germantown and Brandywine. At the end of his service in the military he served as an Indian Spy in Pennsylvania, New York and Canada until the end of the war.
In 1778 he married Anna Jolly. James and his family migrated into Kentucky and eventually settled in what is now Alexandria, Kentucky.
SAR members research, locate and mark graves so the final resting places of Revolutionary War Patriots are not lost to history. The grave markers are a visual cue for all to see and inform visitors to a cemetery that a Revolution War Soldier is buried there.
Planned dignitaries include descendants of James Shaw from Nevada and Ohio, Campbell County Historical and Genealogical Society, The National Commander in Chief, Descendants of Washington’s Army, Valley Forge, and representatives from the office of VP General of the Central District, National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, The Society of Cincinnatus of Pennsylvania, The Nevada State and Kentucky State Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, The Rebecca Boone Chapter, The Boone County Chapter, The Mary Ingles Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Simon Kenton Chapter, the William Arnold Chapter, the Cincinnati Chapter and the James Harrod Chapter of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution
