Green Bay’s women’s basketball team came to Truist Arena on Friday and showed the reason it is once again favored to win the Horizon League.
The deep Phoenix team left with a convincing 86-56 victory shooting 59% from the field including 50% from three-point range and saw six players reach double figures.
Green Bay (11-3) stayed undefeated in league play at 4-0 and Northern Kentucky (2-11) fell to 0-4 in league play.
Bailey Butler led the Phoenix with 20 points. Natalie McNeal and Maddy Schrieber followed with 12 and 11, respectively. Natalie Andersen, Callie Genke and Jenna Guyer came off the bench to score 12, 12 and 10, respectively as Green Bay’s bench outscored Northern Kentucky’s, 36-15.
The Norse outrebounded the Phoenix, 31-30, but struggled with turnovers. Northern Kentucky gave the ball away 20 times to nine for Green Bay and the Phoenix cashed in outscoring the Norse, 28-5 off those turnovers.
Carter McCray and Kailee Davis continued to be bright spots for the Norse scoring 15 points each. McCray added eight rebounds and Davis dished out four assists. Macey Blevins scored 11 points and Khamari Mitchell-Steen scored eight to go with seven rebounds.
The Norse host Milwaukee on Sunday at 2 p.m.
