Fort Thomas’ Highland Hills and Tower parks have been the topic of intense discussion at recent city meetings, especially in regard to amenities.
While many residents have expressed support for pickleball courts and a skate park, concerns over traffic, parking and noise remain. As city officials and residents look for solutions, waiting in the wings is Carlisle Park.
Local developer and philanthropist Wayne Carlisle donated the 24-acre property along Memorial Parkway near Stardust Point close to the cities of Fort Thomas and Newport in 2021.
The park offers potential for various amenities, but the property still has issues with drainage, grading and access, according to city officials.
Fort Thomas City Administrator Matt Kremer met in May with the representatives of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, SD1 and the city of Newport to discuss the issues and next steps.
“We are waiting on the drainage plan from a contractor with KYTC to repair some of the drainage issues that are on the edge of the property,” Kremer said. “Once this has been completed, we will have a better idea of the possibilities on that property. I’m hoping to have more information in the next couple of months.”
He added that he may have more to share at the August council meeting.
