Thomas More University announced this week that Ron Russo will serve as head men’s and women’s track & field coach.
He served as an assistant previously for the past three years while also serving as head men’s and women’s cross country coach.
Russo has coached for more than thirty years at the high school and collegiate level, producing four state titles at McAuley High School in Cincinnati, twenty-two all-state athletes, and took the TMU women’s team to nationals for the first time.
He is a 1983 graduate of Indiana University where he earned a bachelor’s degree, and later earned a master’s degree at Miami University.
Russo earned a counseling license at Xavier University.
“I’m grateful for the opportunity to lead a group of committed student athletes to meet their full potential and get the most out of their athletic experience while at Thomas More,” Said Russo.
Russo said, “the mission of the program is to allow student athletes to grow academically, spiritually, and athletically so that they are able to meet the demands of the world of work upon graduation.”
“Being a committed collegiate athlete allows the individual to learn how to balance academics, athletics, and their social lives in a very meaningful way,” he said. “I believe in developing a very balanced program where every event is equally important to the overall success of the team. I going to be heavily invested in this program and help bring Thomas More track & field to the next level.”
The track program will begin its season in the winter with the schedule to be released at a later date.
