The president of The Northern Kentucky chapter of the NAACP received the 2016 Director’s Community Leadership Award from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Louisville Division.

Jerome Bowles, who is also director of the Bowles Center for Diversity Outreach, has worked on closing achievement gaps, enhancing diversity in the workplace, and creating a positive education environment, a news release said. He presents conferences statewide where police and community relations have suffered.

The Director’s Community Leadership Award was formally created in 1990 as a way to honor individuals and organizations for their efforts on combating crime, terrorism, drugs and violence in America. Recipients of this award are nominated by each of the FBI’s 56 field offices and are recognized for their service above and beyond the call of duty to help keep America and its residents safe.

Bowles is a passionate supporter of law enforcement, a news release said, adding that his tireless efforts to bring police and community leaders together have improved relations across the Commonwealth. His involvement has also prompted police departments to reflect on their community engagement and to continue to improve the service they provide to their communities.
