Gov. Andy Beshear ordered flags on state buildings to be flown at half-staff in remembrance of a Kentucky airman who died during a support mission for Operation Epic Fury.

The U.S. Department of Defense, which President Trump renamed the U.S. Department of War in September 2025, announced that Sgt. Ashley B. Pruitt, 34, of Bardstown, died on March 12 in the crash of a KC-135 refueling tanker in western Iraq. She was assigned to the 6th Air Refueling Wing at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.

A funeral service for Pruitt will be conducted Saturday at New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Cox’s Creek, Kentucky.

Individuals, businesses and organizations throughout the commonwealth are encouraged to join in this tribute.
