Covington Catholic High School students have recently been selected for the 2015 Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) and 2015 Kentucky Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs (GSE).
Josh Hildreth, a junior at Covington Catholic, was selected for the Kentucky GSA as a Visual Art student. Additionally, David Wood, Cody Caldon, Logan Merkle and Andrew Hellmueller were named as Alternates for Visual Art. Andrew Hellmueller was also named an Alternate for Architecture.
George Ghazala, a junior at Covington Catholic, and Joe Niehaus, a sophomore, were selected for the Kentucky GSE program.
From the Kentucky GSA website: “Every summer for the past twenty-eight years, GSA and our faculty of professional artist/educators have guided over two hundred of Kentucky’s finest young artists through three weeks of incredibly intense (and incredibly fun) arts instruction (since 2014, on the campus of Centre College in Danville). GSA auditions promising high school sophomores and juniors in nine different arts disciplines: Architecture+Design, Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, Instrumental Music, Musical Theatre, New Media, Visual Art and Vocal Music. For three solid weeks, the students live, breathe, eat and sleep the arts. It’s a thrilling, often life-changing experience, as they meet new friends, explore their creativity, and discover new things about who they are and who they can be in the future.”
The 2015 GSA program will be held June 21 – July 11 at Centre College.
From the Kentucky GSE website: “GSE is a unique entrepreneurship program which places a strong emphasis on innovation and design as elements of creating a sustainable business model. It was founded three years ago by the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation with the support of Governor Beshear’s office to make it a third Governor’s School program, thereby reaching teens across the state. GSE teaches students critical life and work skills of problem-solving, teamwork and iteration in an environment where it is safe to fail. Working in small business teams, students design and build a product prototype and learn the components of a business model. Emphasis is on the triple bottom line – focusing not only on profit but also on people and the planet. On the last day teams give oral business pitch presentations to a panel of business owners, investors and professionals.”
The 2015 GSE program will be held June 21 – July 11 at Georgetown College.
