schmidtscholarship

Joe Schmidt graduated from Covington Catholic High School in 1961 and Ginnie (Bohman) Schmidt graduated from Notre Dame Academy that same year. The two have been married for more than five decades and have had two sons graduate from from Cov Cath and a daughter from Notre Dame.

Now the Schmidts are giving back to their alma maters through the establishment of a new scholarship at both campuses.

The Joe and Ginnie Schmidt Scholarships will go toward the tuition assistance programs at each school.

The Schmidts have been very active at the schools, serving as Bingo supporters and as Boosters, while Joe Schmidt served on the Covington Catholic School Board, the St. Augustine Finance Council, and the Diocesan Messenger Advisory Board.

Their son Mike Schmidt graduated from Covington Catholic in 1982 as valedictorian and their son Tom Schmidt graduated from Cov Cath in 1983 as salutatorian. Their daughter Nancy Fedders graduated from Notre Dame in 1985.

Funds for the scholarships were presented last week to Dr. Laura Koehl, president/principal at Notre Dame, and Bob Rowe, principal at Covington Catholic.
