Kenton County Senator Chris McDaniel sure has moved up fast in Frankfort.
Just two short years after being elected, the Taylor Mill Republican is already on a statewide ticket as the lieutenant governor candidate in Agriculture Commissioner James Comer’s gubernatorial campaign, and as of Monday afternoon now chairs the Senate’s powerful Appropriations & Revenue Committee.
“I am honored in the confidence that President (Robert) Stivers and the members of Senate Leadership have placed in me by naming me as the Chairman of the Senate’s Appropriations and Revenue Committee,” McDaniel said in a statement to The River City News. “As the committee of jurisdiction with oversight for all of the Commonwealth’s non-fuel tax revenue, this committee is uniquely positioned to address key issues such as the size and scope of government, long-term debt, and the overall competitive environment in our state. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the House and Senate as we ensure that the tax dollars of our citizens are utilized to make Kentucky the best place in the nation to live, work and do business.”
McDaniel is president of Erlanger-based McD Concrete and represents Covington and northern Kenton County in the General Assembly’s upper chamber.
In July, The River City News broke the news that McDaniel was to be tapped as Comer’s running mate. In September, that became official, and on September 10, the pair kicked off their campaign in Northern Kentucky.Â
Last month, McDaniel joined other Republican legislators and local leaders in announcing a bill to be introduced in the 2015 session that will aim to combat the region and the state’s heroin problem.
In addition to McDaniel, Boone County Senator John Schickel will chair the Licensing, Occupations, and Welfare Committee, and freshman Campbell County Senator Wil Schroder will be Vice Chair of the Judiciary Committee.
