A former Northern Kentucky bookstore employee reported missing earlier this month was found dead in Paris, France, according to the Covington Police Department.

Police said those who reported 64-year-old Todd Garland missing were concerned for his welfare. The Covington resident had not been seen since June 9.

Detectives made contact with Garland on June 10 regarding a criminal investigation, police said.

Investigators learned Tuesday, June 23 that Garland had departed the United States and had flown to Paris, France, on June 11.

Police said Wednesday that they’ve confirmed with Homeland Security Investigations that Garland was found dead Tuesday in Paris, and the Paris Police Prefecture is investigating his death. Covington police did not have any other information regarding the circumstances surrounding Garland’s death.

Garland was a former employee at Roebling Books & Coffee, a well-known NKY business with locations in Covington, Newport and Dayton. The business posted an announcement to their social media pages Sunday, telling the community Garland hadn’t been seen in 12 days.
