In the coming days, a bronze home plate honoring the 1913 Covington Blue Sox baseball team will be installed on the outside wall of the county parking garage on Scott Boulevard between 2nd and 3rd Streets. Federal Park, the team’s home field, stood on the site from 1913 to 1919 before the stadium was torn down.
In May, Jerod Theobald, owner of flow – a shop for men and managing editor at The River City News, was awarded an $800 grant by CovingTen, an anonymous group of charitable givers that provides funding for community projects in Covington, to design, fabricate, and install the commemorative plate. The plate was designed by graphic designer Emilie Beck and fabricated by Louisville artist Wyatt Gragg. Theobald worked with local historian Luke Groeschen to write the plate’s text.
Details on a dedication ceremony will be announced at a later date.
