The youngest member of the Kentucky General Assembly is coming to Covington this week.
Rep. Jonathan Shell (R-Lancaster) will speak at the Northern Kentucky Young Republicans’ monthly meeting at Keystone Bar & Grill on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
Shell was 24 years old when he was first elected in 2012. He has supported welfare reform and opposed a proposed raise in the state’s minimum wage to $10.10 an hour, calling it bad for young people.
“Raising the minimum wage hurts entry level workers,” Shell said at the time, according to a news release. “I’m a young guy and I am for people in my age range getting to work early on in life. I don’t want us to take away opportunities that our young people have today and have had in the past. By raising the minimum wage we are going to be taking away those opportunities. We don’t need any more ‘band-aid’ fixes, we need actual job growth here in Kentucky.”
