Villa Madonna Academy volleyball coach Sandi Kitchen has reached another milestone.

The Vikings coach picked up her 500th win with the Vikings on Monday with a 2-0 (25-12, 25-12) win over Bellevue in the 9th Region All “A” tournament quarterfinals.

Kitchen is in her 31st season at Villa, celebrating her 30th year with the program last year. In that timeframe, Kitchen has amassed a record of 500-331.

The win gets Villa into Tuesday’s All “A” semifinals at home against Ludlow at 7 p.m., where they’ll recognize Kitchen for the milestone. They currently sit at 4-3 on the season.

Kitchen also doubles as the Campbell County softball coach, spending 13 seasons in Claryville with a 232-122 record with the Camels and guiding them to the 10th Region championship game last year and seven straight 37th District titles.

“I’m a very competitive person. I feel like it allows me to give back to the girls and the community. Also, there are a lot of life lessons you can teach, such as dedication, confidence, pushing themselves, reaching their goals and working together,” Kitchen told LINK nky’s Marc Hardin back in 2023. “Coaching at two schools definitely provides a variety of athletes and people that I get to work with. Coaching at Campbell County allows me to be at home and give back to the school that I graduated from.”

Kitchen is a 1979 Campbell County and 1984 Northern Kentucky University graduate. She played volleyball, basketball and slow-pitch softball at Campbell County and NKU, and she was a graduate assistant on NKU’s first fast-pitch team in 1985.

She was McNicholas’ volleyball coach from 1984-93, and from 1984-88 she was Newport Central Catholic’s girls basketball coach. Counting all the victories together, Kitchen has over 800 career wins.
