Ryle advanced to the 9th Region semifinals on Thursday with a 2-0 victory over St. Henry on Tuesday.
The Raiders missed some chances to pile on the Crusaders (4-14-1), St. Henry making the reigning 9th Region champs earn the victory. The host Raiders (18-2-1) outshot St. Henry, 26-3. Landon Barth made one save in the 12th shutout of the season for the Raiders. Jake McCann and Ricardo Galan had the goals for the Raiders.
Ryle takes on Highlands (12-5-2) in the 9th Region semifinals on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Boone County.

Campbell County 6, Montgomery County 0
The Camels shut out the three-time defending champion Indians to go back to the region semifinals for the second straight year, breaking open the game after leading 1-0 at halftime.
“Obviously, the boys had the belief going in at halftime being up a goal,” said Kyle Newman, Campbell County head coach. “But they knew they left a lot of opportunities out there so our point of emphasis was capitalizing on those opportunities. They did just that.”
Kaden Rose led the Camels with four goals with Austin Bush and Luke Linville adding goals. Glass, Noah Rittinger and Ethan Kaiser had assists with goalkeeper Brycen Faulkner tallying four saves in Campbell County’s sixth shutout of the season.
“We passed the ball really well,” Rose said. “When you have the shot, you can’t be afraid to take it. It’s all about taking a deep breath and firing away.”
Campbell County (10-9-1) takes on 38th District champion Harrison County (6-8-1) at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, back in Winchester.
Bishop Brossart 10, Mason County 0
The host Mustangs handled the visiting Royals to move on to the region semifinals for the third straight year.
Tyler Smith led Brossart (15-4-5) with five goals. Luke Alwell had three goals and one assist with Landon Guidugli scoring twice and adding an assist and Samuel Chirumbolo had two assists. Carter Boruske, Austin Twehues, Andrew Lusby, Brennan Callahan and Max Runge added assists.
Brossart plays host to George Rogers Clark (14-5-2) at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Volleyball
St. Henry 3, Simon Kenton 0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-17)
The Crusaders traveled to Independence and took care of things in three in non-region action.
St. Henry (26-8) had 39 kills, 38 assists, 41 digs, 14 aces and one solo block in the win and Elizabeth Tabeling dug up nine balls and served three aces. Macy Lentz had 33 assists, eight digs and two aces for the Crusaders and Alivia Skidmore had 13 kills to go with six digs with Anna Guard recording 11 kills and four aces. Madi Demler added six kills and eight digs and Corrine Blackburn had four kills.
Simon Kenton (25-7) had 20 kills, 36 digs, 20 assists, six aces and two assisted blocks in the loss. Sadie Rehkamp had 18 assists, four digs and two aces for the Pioneers with Alisha Hawkins recording nine kills and Tori Chasteen had a team-high seven digs with Sophie Spanier and CeCe Scalf recording six and five digs respectively.
Simon Kenton plays at Scott (20-14) at 5 p.m. Wednesday. St. Henry plays at Ursuline Academy (8-13) at 7 p.m.
Cooper 3, Highlands 2 (15-25, 24-26, 25-21, 25-18, 15-10)

The Jaguars won the 19th consecutive meeting between the two rallying for the 9th Region win.
“It was a nice win. The girls played well,” said Michelle Isaac, Cooper head coach. “They believed they could win and didn’t play not to lose. That’s the mindset we’ve been shooting for. We’ve been working on the mental game because it’s been a long year. But the girls don’t falter. They go work hard.”
Cooper had 54 kills, 50 assists, 67 digs, five aces and 12 blocks overall. Senior setter Sadie Smith had 38 assists, eight kills, two aces and nine digs to lead the way for the Jaguars (12-17). Audrey Schilling had 21 kills, 12 digs and two aces with Carly Schroeder recording eight kills and seven digs.
“I think it went well,” Schroeder said. “We had the energy the whole time and we played together. We really needed this win. We fought for every point.”
Cooper saw Violet Birtcil record 12 digs with Makenna Depue digging up 12 balls to go with 10 assists and Jill Puckett had seven kills and five blocks with Dani Depenbrock blocking four balls.
Both teams play again Thursday at 7 p.m. Cooper plays host to Holy Cross (23-10) and Highlands (18-14) plays host to Beechwood (23-11).
Conner 3, Beechwood 1 (19-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-20)
The Cougars downed the host Tigers in a 9th Region win.
Conner (25-7) had 52 kills, 17 blocks, 49 assists, 84 digs and nine aces in the win. Senior Lilly Hamburg put down 23 kills to earn the 1,000th of her career and Aubrey Depenbrock recorded 31 assists for the 1,000th of her career.
“With it being Senior Night for Beechwood, those girls played with so much heart and passion trying to win that last home game,” said Douglas Rabe, Conner head coach. “I kept trying to tell my girls it is still difficult to maintain that high level of intensity and emotion. We were hoping that as the games progressed that they would wear down. I don’t think they wore down completely. I think that they had lulls in their game. When that happened, that’s when we were able to go somewhat on a run and build a nice lead on them. But they came roaring back. That is one of the best defensive teams we’ve played.”
Anna Hamilton once again started the Conner offensive flow with 24 digs. Peyton Walker had 16 kills and seven blocks with Jordan Ransdell adding 17 assists and three aces. Carly Nehus added to the balance with 11 digs and seven kills. Maddie Leiprecht had 11 digs and two aces with Bailey Morris recording nine digs and two aces. Annika Berwanger added four blocks.
“It’s meant so much. I really appreciate being given the opportunity to help out and contribute to the balance of the team even if I’m just a sophomore with the 10 seniors,” Berwanger said. “The seniors have been great with helping me fit in. I didn’t expect to be welcomed so much with Lilly and the others leading. I definitely feel like I deserve to be there.”
Beechwood (23-11) had 58 digs, 38 kills, 38 assists, 11 aces and eight blocks in the loss. Isabel O’Brien had eight kills and 12 digs with Maggie Dawson digging up 22 balls and recording three aces. Skylr Estep had 30 assists, seven digs, three kills and two aces.
Beechwood travels to Highlands (18-14) for a 7 p.m. game Thursday. Conner takes on McCracken County (20-5) at 10:30 a.m. at Ryle on Saturday.
Newport Central Catholic 3, Villa Madonna 2 (25-19, 15-25, 25-18, 14-25, 21-19)
The Thoroughbreds edged the Vikings in a 9th Region thriller on the Hill.
NewCath found itself down 14-11 in the fifth game, but came back. That game went back and forth before NewCath won on a Viking error.
“It was not easy. Villa did a great job keeping the ball up and in play,” said Angie Reckers, NewCath head coach. “We did a great job of wanting that next ball and not quitting. It was pretty intense.”
The Thoroughbreds had 47 kills, 86 digs, 16 aces, 42 assists and five assisted blocks. Kori Reckers led the way with 14 kills, four aces and 23 digs. Vivi Fassler helped her get in some swings with 13 assists to go with 10 digs and three aces.
“Kori get in a lot of good swings so her kills really help out a lot,” Fassler said. “Our confidence has really gone up a lot with all the wins and our team chemistry has gotten a lot better. It makes me really happy when (teammates get excited).”
NewCath (15-18) once again displayed balance. Reese McCloskey had 11 kills and Katelyn Brannen added eight with Lucy Simons adding 10 digs and six kills. Jordyn Reckers had 14 digs and seven assists with Paytin Reckers digging up eight balls.
Villa Madonna (18-7) had 94 digs, 46 kills, 43 assists, 13 aces and one assisted block. Madeline Mitchell dug up 29 balls with Catherine Gifford tallying 22 assists, 24 digs and three aces. Maya Kondik pounding down 22 kills and Joci Demler had 12 digs.
NewCath takes on Grant County (16-10) on Senior Night back on the Hill on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Villa Madonna travels to Dixie Heights on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game.
Bishop Brossart 3, Bourbon County 0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-15)
The Mustangs hit the 20-win plateau for the second straight season with the sound 10th Region win over the Colonels.
Brossart (20-11) has gone 4-4 since the All “A” State Tournament, including 37th District seed losses to Scott and Campbell County. The Mustangs will be the third seed in the district tournament similar to last year. But the Mustangs came together to win the 37th District and 10th Region Tournaments on their way to the first state tournament appearance in school history last year and hope for a similar run this year.
“We pretty much stayed in system the entire game,” said Danielle French, Brossart head coach. “We had discussions about not letting things get to our head and we had discussions about letting mistakes go, moving on to the next ball and helping build the teammates up. The girls really stepped up and showed that they want to win, want to be here. They’re not ready for our season to be done yet.”
Brossart senior Nadia Shurley agreed it is important to get excited during big plays in games. She said the Mustangs have their unique ways of doing it.
“Each hitter has her own little cheer or their little dance that we like to incorporate in,” Shurley said. “I think it definitely boosts all of energy. The player that scored the point feels hyped because everyone is excited.”
Brossart travels to Augusta (4-24) on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game.
Scott 3, Boone County 0 (25-12, 25-10, 25-17)
The Eagles reached the 20-win plateau for the second straight season taking down the Rebels in non-region action.
“We didn’t play very well against Beechdood (on Monday) so our goal was to come out and take care of business,” said Andrea Sullivan, Scott head coach. “One of our goals was to get 20 wins this year so it was nice to do it on Senior Night.”
Scott (20-14) had 39 kills, 38 assists, 24 digs, four solo blocks and 11 aces in the win. Ryann Grigsby recorded 34 assists and three aces in the win with Brooke Balsley recording three aces, seven kills and two solo blocks. Milyn Minor had 17 kills, two solo blocks and eight digs for the Eagles and Brooklyn Helm put down 12 kills.
“I think it’s pretty cool knowing even though we are a young team, we are working together,” said Payton Grigsby, Scott sophomore. “We struggled with serving and serve receive (in the loss to Beechwood on Monday). We did better (Tuesday) and pulled through. It’s about getting around and making sure you take two extra steps.”
Scott plays host to Simon Kenton (25-7) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. Boone County (8-23) plays host to Heritage Academy (6-18) in the first round of the 33rd District Tournament on Monday at 6 p.m.
Walton-Verona 3, Lloyd Memorial 0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-22)
The Bearcats evened their record at 17-17 with the non-region win.
Walton-Verona had 32 kills, 32 assists, 71 digs and 13 aces in the win. Isabella O’Brien had nine kills, 19 digs and four aces in the win. Macie Godwin had 14 digs and four aces with Veronika Burkett tallying 12 digs and Natalie Ferguson following with 11. Amber Hall added 26 assists to record the 800th of her career.
Walton-Verona plays host to Grant County (15-10) on Oct. 17 in the 32nd District semifinals.
