Cooper 63, Dixie Heights 21

The Jaguars were in search of their first undefeated regular season in program history and rolled on their way to doing so.

Traveling from their friendly confines off Longbranch Road down US 42 for their regular season finale, Cooper drew blackjack (21) in quarters one, two and four en route to a 63-21 victory.

The Jags (10-0, 5-0) touchdown sale started on its first possession with a quick 62-yard touchdown pass from Cam O’Hara to Isaiah Johnson. Dixie (3-6, 2-3) countered with a quick scoring drive on the feet and shoulders of Armani Gregg to knot the score at seven. Gregg finished the night with 28 carries for 126 yards and two touchdowns.

From that point on it was the Jaguars sprinting to the lead and not looking back racing to a 42-14 lead at the half.

Keagan Maher rushed 22 times for a career high 235 yards and three scores, with a long TD run of 89 yards.

Maher would also add four catches for 87 yards. O’Hara went 16-for-28 for 282 yards and five TD tosses, which put him over the century mark for career touchdown passes (102).  O’Hara also added a rushing touchdown.

Isaiah Johnson led all receivers with six receptions for 107 yards and three touchdowns.  Overall, the Jags racked up 546 yards of total offense.

Cooper will have a bye for the final week of the regular season. It gives them an opportunity to heal up and prepare for which could be home playoffs throughout, with first round opponent South Oldham, who was upset by Collins tonight.

Dixie closes the regular season at Ryle next week, but have locked up the 4-seed in the District and will be traveling to Woodford County. It’s a rematch against the Yellow Jackets, whom the Colonels upset in round one last year.

The win clinches a home playoff game for Newport (6-2, 2-1) as they earned the No. 2 seed in the Class 1A, 3rd District. They’ll face Holy Cross not only next week in the regular season finale, but also in the first round of the playoffs for the second straight year.
