The Northern Kentucky Norse basketball teams hit the road Friday for Horizon League games and came away with losses.
Wright State 83, Northern Kentucky men 65
The Raiders (16-11, 9-7) forced a split in the season series with the win in Dayton over the Norse (15-11, 10-5).
Wright State started the game scoring 13 of the first 15 points. But Northern Kentucky came back to tie it at 15-15 with 8:21 left in the first half. Wright State won the remainder of the half 19-16 to go up 34-31 at halftime.
But the Raiders dominated the second half, 49-34 on their way to the victory. Wright State shot a magnificent 71 percent in that half and held Northern Kentucky to 34 percent.
Junior guard Marques Warrick tried to lead the Norse to the win scoring 27 points making 10 of 18 shots including five triples to go with four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Warrick has 20 or more points in nine games this year.
Sophomore point guard Sam Vinson added 19 points to go with eight rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal for his seventh double-digit game in the past eight. Warrick and Vinson combined to shoot 17 of 32 from the field while the others finished 7-of-34.
Northern Kentucky plays host to IUPUI in the final home game of the regular season Sunday at 1 p.m. at Truist Arena.
Green Bay 54, NKU women 51
The Norse (14-10, 8-7) played the Phoenix (20-4, 13-2) better in the second meeting between the two. But Northern Kentucky could not etch out a win up north like last season.
The Norse are still in fifth place in league play, but they are a full two games behind fourth-place IUPUI, who is 10-5.
Sophomore guard Kailee Davis led the Norse with 21 points increasing her scoring average to 14 per game to go with six rebounds and three assists.
Sophomore guard Khamari Mitchell-Steen and senior guard Iny Turner added nine points and three assists each. Mitchell-Steen also grabbed 17 rebounds for the fourth-highest for a single-game performance in the Horizon League this season.
Northern Kentucky plays at Milwaukee on Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
