Senior girls basketball players made the most of their final games on the northern Kentucky high school hardwood. Seventeen seniors are on the Northern Kentucky Girls Basketball Coaches Association all-star teams for Divisions I, II, and III. This is nearly half the total number of players on the teams.
Four seniors made the five-player 9th Region Girls Basketball Coaches Association first team. The 8th and 10th Regions offered up several significant contributors to this season’s senior-laden spectacular.
Who are these experienced veterans who made magic for their respective teams in their final seasons? In the end, who were the best of the best senior basketball players from the area? We take a look with a listing of 30 local players including a deeper look at the top 10.

Catherine Buddenberg, Dixie Heights: Combo guard for 11-time defending 34th District champion Colonels. Led the team with 14.7 points per game and was second with 4.2 rebounds. Also led with 56.5% field goal shooting, ranking 16th statewide, and shot nearly 40% from 3-point range. Scored 957 career points at Dixie. All-NKGBCA Division I. All-9th Region first team. 9th Region all-tournament. A Wittenberg University commit.

Aniyah Carter, Holy Cross: Point guard and defensive stopper for four-time defending 9th Region All “A” Classic champion Indians. Among team leaders with a scoring average of 9.1 points per game. Finished career with 603 points. All-NKGBCA Division II. All-9th Region second team. 9th Region All “A” Classic Tournament MVP. A Union Commonwealth University commit.

Caroline Eaglin, Newport Central Catholic: Shooting guard for 36th District tournament and 9th Region All “A” Classic runners-up. Northern Kentucky girls scoring leader a third straight season with 22.4 points per game, ranking 14th statewide. Paced team with 6.4 rebounds. Led team in field goal (46.2%), 3-point (33.6%) and free throw shooting percentage (86.8%). Scored a school-record 2,546 career points. NKAC Division II co-player of the year. All-NKGBCA Division II. All-9th Region first team. 9th Region all-tournament. 9th Region All “A” Classic all-tournament. A Northern Kentucky University commit.

Sophia Gibson, Notre Dame Academy: A 6-foot-4 center for 35th District champion and 9th Region tournament runner-up. Third on the Pandas with 9.6 points per game and team rebounds leader at 6.1. Shot 50% from the field. Joined the 1,000-point club after beginning prep career as the third-leading scorer as an eighth grader at NewCath. Finished with 1,038. All-NKGBCA Division I. All-9th Region honorable mention. 9th Region all-tournament. 35th District tournament MVP. A Yale University commit.

Marissa Green, Highlands: A 6-foot-3 center for three-time defending 36th District champion. Paced Bluebirds with 14.3 scoring average and 8.5 rebounds. Led the area and ranked third statewide with 63.4% field goal shooting. Scored 1,747 points and grabbed 1,023 rebounds in her career. NKGBCA Division II co-player of the year. All-NKGBCA Division II. All-9th Region first team. 9th Region all-tournament. A University of Illinois-Chicago commit.

Maya Lawrie, Notre Dame Academy: Versatile swing player for 35th District champion and 9th Region tournament runner-up. Second on the Pandas with 9.7 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. Led the team and ranked 12th statewide with 57.4% field goal shooting. Finished with 833 career points as a Panda. All-NKGBCA Division I. All-9th Region third team. 9th Region all-tournament. Receiving college offers.

Zoee Meyers, Bishop Brossart: Combo guard for 37th District and 10th Region All “A” Classic champions. Second on the Mustangs with 12.3 points per game and fourth in rebounding. Led the All “A” Classic state runner-up with 82.4% (42-for-51) free throw shooting, a top-20 statewide number had she qualified. Joined the 1,000-point club in the 37th District tournament. All-NKGBCA Division II. 10th Region all-tournament. 10th Region All “A” Classic all-tournament. State All “A” Classic all-tournament. A Muskingum College commit.

Aumani Nelson, Holy Cross: Versatile forward for four-time defending 9th Region All “A” Classic champion. Led team with 15.4 points per game. Paced Indians regulars with 78% free throw shooting. Led the team in deflections, many of which resulted in steals for others. Second with 4.4 rebounds. Finished with 1,048 career points. All-NKGBCA Division II. All-9th Region first team. 9th Region all-tournament. 9th Region All “A” Classic all-tournament. A Geneva College commit.

Braylin Terrell, Walton-Verona: A 6-foot-2 post player for the two-time defending 8th Region All “A” Classic champion. Led the Bearcats with 8.4 rebounds and was second in scoring with 14.6 points per game. Paced the team with 54.7% field goal shooting, ranking 35th in Kentucky. Shot 75.2% on free throws. Joined the 1,000-point club as a senior. All-NKGBCA Division II. All-8th Region. 8th Region All “A” Classic all-tournament and tournament MVP. A Grace College commit.
Zene Thompson, Cooper: Combo guard for four-time defending 9th Region champion. Third on the Jaguars with 9.5 scoring average and tied for third with 3.6 rebounds. All-NKGBCA Division I. All-9th Region honorable mention. 9th Region all-tournament. Receiving college offers.
