The Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches have released their region Players and Coaches of the Year.
A handful from Northern Kentucky won Region Players of the Year. The 9th Region had a split in the boys, Cooper’s Andy Johnson and Lloyd Memorial’s EJ Walker winning co-9th Region Player of the Year.
Newport Central Catholic’s Caroline Eaglin won the girls 9th Region Player of the Year, Campbell County’s Garyn Jackson winning the boys 10th Region Player of the Year.
Walton-Verona’s Aaron Gutman split the boys KABC 8th Region Player of the Year with Woodford County’s Armelo Boone.

As for the Coaches of the Year, Cooper’s Tim Sullivan and Dixie Heights’ Scott Code split the KABC Coach of the Year in the 9th Region.
Dixie Heights’ Joel Steczynski won the girls KABC 9th Region Coach of the Year while Bishop Brossart’s Steve Brown split the Coach of the Year award with George Rogers Clark’s Robbie Graham in the 10th Region.
Last but not least, Beechwood’s Chance Baugh was announced the winner of the Bill Keightly Award, recognizing a senior team manager making making an impact on his team and outside the basketball court as well. Baugh has been a basketball manager for eight years, baseball manager for six years and played football and has a 3.92 GPA.
The KABC Region Player of the Year award is a senior only award. It is voted on by coaches specific to their respective region. Exact ties result in a co-Player of the Year.
Andy Johnson, Cooper

Johnson has helped lead the Jaguars to the top of the 9th Region as he leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 23.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. The Illinois-Chicago commit is doing so efficiently, hitting 51% of his shots from the field, 37% from the 3-point line and 78% from the free throw line. Despite missing the majority of his junior year due to injury, Johnson is currently nine points shy of 1,000 for his career.
EJ Walker, Lloyd Memorial

Walker, the school’s all-time leading scorer is a matchup nightmare to the opponent. He’s posting 19.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game this season. He hits 61% of his shots from the field and 45% from the 3-point line. Walker has 1,828 points for his high school career and 1,140 rebounds. He’s headed to the University of South Carolina next year.
Caroline Eaglin, Newport Central Catholic

Eaglin is the school’s all-time leading scorer and has led the 9th Region in scoring the past three seasons. In her senior campaign, she’s scoring 22 points per game and pulling down 6.1 rebounds per game. She’s made a team-high 39 three-pointers this season and shoots 86% from the free throw line. She’s cleared the 2,000-point mark for her career and currently sits at 2,446 career points.
Garyn Jackson, Campbell County

Jackson is the floor general for the Camels as they try to win the 10th Region in back-to-back years and make another trip to Rupp Arena. He’s posting 16.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game and also leads the team in assists. Jackson has posted over 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists in his career.
Aaron Gutman, Walton-Verona

Another all-time leading scorer for their respective program, Gutman accomplished the feat on Thursday in the Bearcats regular season finale against Sayre. He’s posting 23.9 points and 6.6 rebounds for Walton-Verona this season. He had 1,953 points in his career leading into Thursday night’s contest with Sayre. Lloyd Poore held the program scoring record for 65 years with 1,971 career points.
Tim Sullivan, Cooper

Sullivan has guided the Jaguars to a 18-5 record and 10-0 in the 9th Region this season. He’s been with the program since its inception in 2008 and has compiled a 292-193 record in that span with a 9th Region title and eight 33rd District titles.
Scott Code, Dixie Heights

Code entered the fold with the Colonels as the head coach this season after being an assistant under Chad Fields. Dixie won their 20th game of the season on Thursday in a win over Boone County, currently with a 20-8 record. The Colonels are in search of their first 34th District title since 2022 and first region title since 2011.
Joel Steczynski, Dixie Heights

Steczynski is in his ninth season with the program and the Colonels currently sit at 17-8 and a contender for a 9th Region title. In his nine seasons, Steczynski has posted a 192-93 record with eight 34th District titles and one 9th Region championship. If they can win three more games, it would be their seventh 20-win season under his stead.
Steve Brown, Bishop Brossart

Brown is in his third season with the Lady ‘Stangs after coming over from Scott. They’ve won 62 games in that span with a 22-7 record this season as they look for a second 37th District title under Brown, winning one in the 2022-23 season.
