A junior trio hit their 1,000 point milestones over the weekend, a showcase is coming to Campbell County with some big name teams and some more teams got to take in the Hoosiers experience.

Jaelyn Jones 1k
Ryle junior Jaelyn Jones hit the 1,000-point mark for her high school career on Feb. 1 in the Lady Raiders game with Dixie Heights.
Jones leads the Raiders in scoring with 20.3 points per game and is hitting 88.8% of her free throw attempts this season. Jones leads Ryle in 3-pointers made (24) and is second in rebounding with 6.5 rebounds per game.
Athens McGillis 1k

Covington Catholic junior Athens McGillis hit the 1,000-point milestone on Feb. 1 in the Colonels contest with Great Crossing.
McGillis leads CovCath in scoring this season with 21.1 points per game and has knocked down a team-high 50 three-pointers this season.
James Turner 1k

Newport junior James Turner also hit 1,000 career points over the weekend in the Wildcats Feb. 2 contest with St. Xavier.
Turner leads the Wildcats in scoring this season with 14.6 points per game and is second in rebounding with 7.1 rebounds per game. He’s hitting 54.5% of his shots from the field.
Camel Classic

Some of the top girls basketball teams and recruits in the state will be coming to Campbell County on Saturday for the inaugural Camel Classic.
Six of the top 22 teams in the state will be featured on Saturday at Campbell County High School.
The schedule is as follows:
12 p.m. — No. 13 Simon Kenton vs No. 14 Bethlehem
2 p.m. — Campbell County vs South Laurel
4 p.m. — No. 22 Highlands vs No. 1 Sacred Heart
6 p.m. — No. 3 Cooper vs No. 11 Danville Christian
8 p.m. — Campbell County vs Beechwood (boys)
On top of the top tier teams, at least four Division I recruits will be playing, highlighted by Sacred Heart’s ZaKiyah Johnson, the favorite to win Miss Kentucky Basketball this year. Johnson is committed to LSU.
Bethlehem features Leah Macy, a Notre Dame commit. Her status is up in the air however, injuring her knee in the All “A” Classic state title game on Jan. 26 and has not played since.
Danville Christian has Grace Mbugua, a Louisville commit, who recently returned from injury and helped lead her team to the All “A” Classic state title.
Then Highlands has two Division I commits, Marissa Green committed to the University of Illinois-Chicago and Tyriana Berry, who is committed to Furman.
Not to forget, Cooper’s Haylee Noel and Simon Kenton’s pair of Brynli Pernell and Bella Ober also drawing Division I interest.
Hoosier Gym games

A few more teams got to take in the “Hoosiers” experience over the weekend.
Calvary Christian played the Villa Madonna boys, Campbell County’s girls played Simon Kenton and Campbell County’s boys played Pendleton County in Knightstown, Indiana, home of the famous gym where the movie Hoosiers was shot.
In the three games, Calvary took down Villa, 62-53, Simon Kenton defeated Campbell, 73-43, and Campbell defeated Pendleton, 81-57.
Tay Kinney comes back to the Bluegrass

Former Newport guard Taylen Kinney made his return to Kentucky on Feb. 2 as his prep school team Overtime Elite played at Woodford County High School, the former home of one of his teammates, Jasper Johnson, who is committed to Kentucky. Overtime Elite took on Huntington Prep out of West Virginia. OTE won by one.
Kinney was also in attendance for the Kentucky-Arkansas game in Lexington on Feb. 1. Kinney has a Kentucky offer, among over 30 others.
Simon Kenton freshman girls win NKAC

The Simon Kenton freshman girls basketball team won the St. Elizabeth NKAC Freshman Basketball Tournament over the weekend. They defeated Holy Cross in the championship game.
Jackson enters 1k-500-500 club

Campbell County senior Garyn Jackson entered rare territory on Tuesday against Simon Kenton. He corralled his 500th career rebound meaning he has scored 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists for his high school career.
He accomplished all three feats this season as the Camels currently sit at 16-7 and a threat to win the 10th Region.
