Notre Dame took on Montgomery County across the road at Covington Catholic on Saturday and came out with a convincing 61-39 win.
Notre Dame dominated the boards, 34-18 including a 22-7 on defensive rebounds and distributed the ball better with 17 assists to two for Montgomery County. Kate Resing led the Pandas with nine rebounds and Maya Lawrie recorded a team-high seven assists.
Emma Holtzapfel made six three-pointers on her way to a game-high 20 points for the Pandas. Ryan Burden followed with 11 points and Sophia Gibson scored 10.
Notre Dame (3-0) plays at Conner on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Girls Basketball
Boone County 36, Shelby County 27
The Rebels won their first road game of the season behind their two leading scorers in sophomores Joslyn Humphrey and Lyric Hooper.
The two posted double-doubles in the win. Humphrey scored 14 points and pulled down 14 rebounds and Hooper scored 12 points and nabbed 11 rebounds. Hooper is averaging 15 points and 10.3 rebounds on the season and Humphrey is averaging 13 points and 12 rebounds.
“I’m hoping we all play together to where if I’m not scoring in double figures, someone else on the team is and if I’m not hitting shots, somebody else will,” Humphrey said. “My teammates are helping me get to double figures by getting rebounds if I’m not hitting shots.”
Boone County (2-1) grabbed 43 rebounds. Junior center Briajia Land grabbed six rebounds and is averaging 7.3 on the season.
“The girls just came in the offseason and have been working their tails off,” said Todd Humphrey, Boone County head coach. “But we knew we were going to be fighting an uphill battle losing so many people. We’ve been trying to play as fast as possible and the biggest thing is learning how to slow down. For three quarters against (Shelby County), we held them to nine points and then we kind of took our feet off the gas pedal and let them come back a bit.”
The Rebels travel to Ludlow on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Highlands 65, Augusta 28
The Bluebirds won their first game of the season in the Donna Murphy Classic at Newport.
Marissa Green led the way with 20 points and eight rebounds. Saylor Macke and Kaylee Mills joined her in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively, as nine different Highlands players scored.
Highlands had 12 steals in the win. Gabby Neufarth led the way with three.
Highlands travels to Cooper on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
Scott 60, Newport 28
The Eagles won their second game in as many days, downing the host Ladycats in the Donna Murphy Classic shooting 46% from the field.
Nakiah Mejia led Scott with 15 points and Kaia Peterson scored 12 with Brianna Hall scoring nine. Mejia has averaged a team-high 14.5 points in Scott’s first two games this year.
Newport (0-3) takes on Dayton on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Scott (2-0) does not play again until Saturday against Holy Cross at 7:30 p.m.
Martin County 63, Campbell County 53
The Camels lost for the first time this year against the Cardinals from eastern Kentucky in their second game of the Donna Murphy Classic at Newport.
Faith Whitford had a breakout game with 16 points and Izzy Jayasuriya scored 12 to lead Campbell County (2-1). Madeleine Barbian followed with nine points.
Campbell County plays at Walton-Verona on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
Dayton 61, Highlands Latin 53
Dayton picked up their first win of the season with an eight-point victory over Highlands Latin.
Tayah Smith and Zoe Sparks led the way with 18 points, Axie Jimenez adding 15 in the victory. Allyiah Hull pulled down 12 of the team’s 32 rebounds in the contest. Smith did most of her damage at the free throw line, knocking down 11-of-13 attempts. Jimenez hit three triples.
Dayton (1-2) returns to the court Monday night when they host Villa Madonna at 7 p.m.
St. Henry 52, Villa Madonna 13
St. Henry had 10 different players enter the scoring column in their victory.
The Crusaders were led by Taylor Hill with eight points while the trio of Josephine Powers, Audrey Pieczonka and Aubrey Logan had seven points apiece. St. Henry pulled down 36 rebounds in the contest, Logan leading the way with seven.
The Crusaders (2-1) host Owen County on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. Villa Madonna (1-2) plays at Dayton on Monday at 7 p.m.

Four Ryle players scored in double figures. Landon Lorms led the way with 16 points and Logan Verax scored 13. Jonathan DeGroff and Evan Smith scored 12 each.
Ryle (3-0) travels to Holmes (0-2) on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. game.
