Storms and a downed tree did not prevent Bishop Brossart from taking two Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference Division II track and field team titles.

In an event that began April 27 at St. Henry and was postponed until Monday at Holmes, the Mustangs completed their sweep. The girls beat Beechwood, 126-69, and the boys did the same to the Tigers, 112.5-74.

Brossart junior Adam Tarvin was part of the Mustangs’ winning 4×400, 4×800 and 4×1,600 quartets, and he’s finished no lower than fourth in the 800, 1,600 or 3,200 this season.

“He just basically does everything for us,” Brossart boys coach Chris Davis said. “He sprints and he runs distance and he does middle distance; he kind of does a lot of the hard events.”

While Tarvin stayed on the ground, junior Justin Bezold took to the sky – he won the pole vault by tying his personal record at 11 feet, 6 inches.

“He’s doing really good,” Davis said.

Beechwood senior Carson Eshelman dominated the throws – he won the shot put with a 40-11 ½ and discus with a 126-4.

Lloyd Memorial’s boys finished third with 63.50 points, and St. Henry and Boone County tied for fourth with 61.

Girls

Whether it was distances, sprints or field events, you could find Brossart at or near the top.

“Well, we have a pretty good group,” Brossart coach Dave Schuh said. “We have somebody in just about every event that should be very competitive.”

Starting with the 4×1,600, where Avery Tarvin, Paislee Litmer, Allison Kuper and Tessa Hafer beat Newport Central Catholic by nearly two minutes.

Walton-Verona’s Maggie Meyer and Beechwood’s Caroline Nordman battled in the anchor legs of the 400 and 800 relays. Meyer won in the 400 and Nordman took the 800. Photo provided | Charles Bolton

Continue with the 4×800, where Hafer, Callie Ochsner, Larah Callahan and Addison Geiman beat NewCath by nearly 25 seconds.

Brossart’s closest win was the 4×400, where Hafer Aubrey Bevan, Larah Callahan and Mackinley Scott defeated Walton-Verona by nearly six seconds.

“We have a lot of people that are pretty close to the same in some events,” Schuh said.

What Eshelman did in the boys throws, Brossart’s Ava Walters duplicated among the girls. She won the shot put with a 36-5 and discus with a 126-11.

Junior Anna Curtsinger, Litmer and Maria Everett went 1-2-3 in the pole vault, with Curtsinger winning with a 9-6.

Beechwood senior Winter Wyant won the long jump in a personal record 16-4 and the triple jump in 32-10 ¾.

Walton-Verona’s Abrielle Hooten, Macie Pettit, Josie Hotzapple and Maggie Meyer won the 4×100 in 51.99.
