Due to the winter sports season running late with the state basketball tournament and vacations and illness, we’re behind in Team of the Week nominees for the spring sports season, but now is the time to catch up. So the first Team of the Week up for voting for the spring sports season will combine what has happened since it officially began on March 17.
To be the winning team, fan votes play a heavy role, along with consideration from our sports team here at LINK.
Nominations are reader-submitted or recommended by our sports team. Our Team of the Week program honors all local sports at all levels, whether it’s youth or adult-oriented recreation, high school or college, professional or amateur.
The new school year has added to the awards program. OrthoCincy Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine and LINK nky are excited to expand in addition to the weekly winners, the program will be including three winners for Team of the Season and one overall winner for Team of the Year for the 2024-25 sports seasons.
New this year for the program is the addition of the Team of the Season (TOTS) and Team of the Year (TOTY) awards. Sports seasons are considered fall, winter and spring for the purpose of this awards program. At the conclusion of each sports season, an overall TOTS winner will be chosen from all previous TOTW winners for that season. Their school will also receive a $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year.
Finally, the program culminates by selecting one TOTY from the three TOTS award winners. Online and print articles will again be published, a large commemorative plaque will be presented and the school will receive an additional $500 scholarship to be presented to the athlete of their choice at the end of the school year.
The call for nominations, voting and winning announcement for each will follow the same format as the TOTW.

RYLE BOYS VOLLEYBALL
The Raiders have yet to lose a contest to start the 2025 season sporting a 11-0 record. They are getting recognized statewide as one of the top teams in the state, ranked No. 3 in the latest Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association Poll.
They’ve dropped just two sets in the process of their undefeated start, winning 32 of 34 sets. Andrew Stropko leads the team in kills with 61, Max Kidd has 28 blocks to lead the way, Ryota Kondo tops the assist category with 139, Collin Kemper leads with 63 digs and Kondo heads the service department with 56 aces.
WALTON-VERONA BASEBALL
The “BatCats” are off to a 10-5 start to the season which also included yet another 8th Region All “A” Championship. They also sport wins over Beechwood, Simon Kenton and Louisville Eastern.
Evan Seibold, Miles Lehmkuhl, Aiden Kerns, Trevor Bauwens and Dustin Wills lead the way at the plate as they all are hitting over .300 with at least 30 at-bats. Kerns and Wills lead with 13 RBI apiece, Seibold and Kerns with five doubles apiece and William Hurles swiping six stolen bases.
Kerns and Corpus lead the pitching staff as they have 1.75 and 1.58 ERA, respectively. Kerns has struck out 30 in 24 innings, including a no-hitter in the 10-0, All “A” championship victory over Eminence. Corpus has fanned 28 in 17.2 innings pitched. Cole Dryden has also stood out on the mound, not allowing a run in eight innings pitched while striking out nine.
CAMPBELL COUNTY SOFTBALL
The Camels are 9-2 to start the season and are doing it with both their bats and pitching.
They’ve outscored the opponent 115-34 while hitting .388 as a team and sporting a 3.05 ERA. Every Camel in the lineup that’s played in at least eight games is hitting at least .333. Faith Whitford, Hope Hamilton, Josie Feebeck and Samantha Perry all have 14 hits at the plate to start the season. Hamilton and Feebeck have five home runs apiece, Feebeck leading the team with 19 RBI while Hamilton, Perry and Moriah Price have 12 RBI each.
Hamilton leads them in the circle with a 3.88 ERA in 39.2 innings pitched to go with 32 strikeouts and a 5-1 record. Addysen Griffin is 4-0 on the year with a 1.57 ERA in 22.1 innings pitched and 20 strikeouts.
BISHOP BROSSART BASEBALL
The Mustangs are 8-3 to start the season and fresh off a 10th Region All “A” championship over the weekend.
They’re 6-1 in their last seven games, led by the offense that’s scored 66 runs in those seven contests. The team sports a .303 batting average and has seven guys batting at least .303. Aiden Schultz, Issac Amin, Ben Volmer, Keegan Gulley and Ben Doyle all have double-digit hits on the season with Volmer (13) and Gulley (11) leading the way in the RBI department.
Alex Noe has been the ace of the pitching staff so far, 3-0 on the season with a 1.35 ERA in 202. innings pitched and a team-high 25 strikeouts. Ben Volmer is 2-1 with a 1.62 ERA while Luke Neltner is 3-1 with a 3.07 ERA.
DIXIE HEIGHTS BOYS LACROSSE
The Colonels are the top boys lacrosse team in NKY to start the season with a 6-3 record.
They’ve scored 103 goals in the nine contests and are led by the trio of Aiden Wood, Brayden Brzygot and Eli Lawson offensively with 23, 21 and 20 goals, respectively. Lawson leads with 14 assists, Evan Rohlman adding 10.
Jacob Meyers has made 60 saves in net, with a 5.8 goals allowed per game average.
NOTRE DAME GIRLS LACROSSE
The Pandas have yet to lose a game this season to date, currently 9-0 and outscoring opponents 133-50.
They are paced by Hannah Powers, Georgi Kirtley and Andrea Carothers offensively, the three combining for 92 goals, Powers with a team-high 45 of them. Kirtley (17), Hannan Dusing (14) and Carothers (10) lead in assists. Grace Panko has been stellar in net, allowing just 5.6 goals per game.
