Trailing 28-16 in the third quarter, Thomas More scored 20 unanswered to earn a big GMAC road win over Kentucky Wesleyan in Owensboro on Saturday.
The comeback started with 1:43 left in the third when Rae’Von Vaden hit Mike Kirch for a five-yard touchdown.
Brooks Curran then hit a pair of field goals from 32 and 37 yards out, his 37-yarder giving the Saints a 29-28 lead with 12:28 left to play. Del Thomas’ 38-yard fumble return extended the Saints lead to 36-28, which would be the final.
Vaden finished with 242 passing yards and two touchdowns, hitting on 14-of-19 passes and adding 45 yards rushing. Jaden Hall had 151 yards rushing on 24 carries with a touchdown. Evan Brown was the Saints leading receiver with three catches for 145 yards and a score.
Thomas More’s defense forced three turnovers on the day with Curran hitting three field goals. Thomas had six tackles with the fumble recovery for a score. Colton Sandhas had an interception.
The win gets the Saints to 4-2 on the season and 3-1 in the GMAC. They return to action on Saturday at University of Findlay (OH) at noon. Both teams sit at 3-1 in conference play.
