The Mid-South Conference 2022-23 Men’s Basketball Awards were announced Friday.
Thomas More’s Reid Jolly was named the MSC Men’s Basketball Player of the Year while Freed-Hardeman’s Hunter Scurlock is the Randy Vernon Defensive Player of the Year. Georgetown’s Tae Dozier earned MSC Freshman of the Year honors.
Georgetown’s Chris Briggs was voted the MSC Coach of the Year by his peers while Rodney Haddix earned Assistant Coach of the Year honors.
Jolly played in all 28 games making 27 starts for the Saints while averaging a team-high 17.4 points per game. He shot 47% from the field while averaging six rebounds per game. Jolly has scored 20 or more points 10 time this season with a high of 31. His 17.4 points per game rank second in the conference.
This is Jolly’s fourth time being named All-MSC and third time being named to the First Team. During the 2019-20 season, Jolly was also named MSC Freshman of the Year. Jolly leads the conference with 196 made field goals. He is seventh in the conference with 168 total rebounds and is tied for eighth with 132 defensive rebounds.
He is tied for the team-lead with 12 blocks, second on the team with 52 assists, and third on the team with 17 steals. He also leads the team with 69 made free throws and a 75% mark from the charity stripe. He has scored in double-digits in all but three games.
He also has six double-doubles this season and was named MSC Player of the Week on November 7th, 2022. Jolly is fourth in program history with 1,798 points and is eight points away from breaking his former teammate Ryan Batte’s point total to move to third all-time.
Scurlock is averaging a team-best 5.4 rebounds per game and has recorded a team-high 57 steals. His 57 steals are tied for third-best in the conference this season.
In his freshman campaign, Dozier started in 26 games averaging 10.3 points per game while shooting 54.2 percent from the field. He is averaging 5.8 rebounds per game and 2.8 assists a game.
Briggs and Haddix led the Tigers to a 24-4 record and winning the MSC regular season title going 18-4 in the conference. Georgetown is currently ranked No. 8 in the NAIA Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll.
Twelve players were named to first and second teams with an additional six players earning honorable mention honors. Georgetown College and Scott grad Jake Ohmer made the first team while the Saints Casey George, Noah Pack and Jacob Jones made the second team.
Jolly’s Player of the Year award is the second season in a row for the Saints, Ryan Batte winning the award last year.
George makes the All-MSC team for the first time in his career. He is fourth on the team in scoring with 287 points, despite missing the last four games due to injury. He is also fourth with 111 made field goals, 15 steals, and 46 assists.
He has started 24 games for the Saints this season. He has scored in double-digits in 17 games, and scored 21 or more points in two games, including a career-high 25 against Roosevelt University on December 30th, 2022. He has four double doubles this season and was named MSC Player of the Week on January 2nd.
Jones is also named All-MSC for the first time in his career. He is second on the team with 350 points, and is ninth in the MSC with a 56.2% mark from the field. He is tied for ninth in the conference with 43 steals and is 10th with 79 assists.
He has started 27 of 28 games this season for Thomas More. He is third on the team with 11 blocks, and second with 136 made field goals. He has scored in double-digits in 17 games this season, and has had 21 or more points in six games, including a career-high 28 at the University of Pikeville on February 18th. He was named MSC Player of the Week on February 20th.
Pack is named All-MSC for the second time in his career after being an Honorable Mention last season. He has been out for the last seven games due to injury. Despite this, He is tied for the team-lead with 12 bocks, is second on the team with 129 total rebounds, 104 defensive rebounds, and is third with 49 assists.
Pack has started all 21 games he has played in this season. He has scored in double-digits in 11 games and has two double doubles. He tied Jolly for the season-lead in points with a career-high 31 against Cumberland University (Tenn.) on December 3rd, 2022. He was named MSC Player of the Week on December 5th, 2022.
The Saints are back at it in the MSC Tournament Quarterfinals Saturday night at 8:30 p.m. ET against the Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders. They beat Lindsey Wilson both times during the regular season.
