Cincinnati’s City Peace Church Hosts Disinformation Program
October 23’s “You CAN Handle the Truth” event invites faith leaders, organizational managers, and concerned citizens to panel discussion.

CINCINNATI – City Peace Church, located in Oakley since 1974, will host “You CAN Handle the Truth: A Conversation About Disinformation and its Impact on Society” on October 23 at 7 p.m. in its sanctuary at 4229 Brownway Ave.
The program will provide a roundtable discussion about the dangers of dis/misinformation and how to combat them, featuring experts who can address widely circulated fallacies, as well as advocates for vulnerable populations who will speak about the narratives false content creates and the harm they cause.
Panelists will include Jeffrey Blevins, a professor at the University of Cincinnati’s School of Public and International Affairs; Carlos Ramirez, representing the Ballot Integrity Alliance of Cincinnati; Samantha Searls, program director for Ignite Peace; and Josh Spring, executive director of the Greater Cincinnati Homeless Coalition. The panelists will speak about their experience and the impact of disinformation on their work, and the audience will be able to ask them questions about their concerns about how disinformation impacts our democracy in general and their lives in particular.
As we head into midterm-election season, with a highly polarized population, it is vital for authenticity and transparency in politics, government, media, corporate and organizational activities, and society at large.
Blevins, the author of Social Media, Social Justice and the Political Economy of Online Networks, said in a 2022 interview, “[Fake news is] something that tries to pass itself off as being from a credible or legitimate news source when it is, in fact, not. The truth takes time to develop. Context takes time.”
“You CAN Handle the Truth” will take place at City Peace Church, located at 4229 Brownway Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45209. All of those concerned about the impact of disinformation on our daily lives are invited to attend.
