GRAND OPENING OF THE YUNG FAMILY FOUNDATION ADVANCED CARE HOME, SET FOR OCTOBER 1ST
BURLINGTON, Ky. — The totally handicapped-accessible Yung Family Foundation Advanced Care Home – 6125 First Financial Drive, Burlington, Ky. – will celebrate its Grand Opening, Thursday, October 1st.
Ribbon-cutting for the 5,529-square-foot, seven-bedroom home is set for noon.
The Yung Family Foundation Advanced Care Home was inspired by the legendary Boone County High School Football Coach, Owen Hauck.
It was the Hauck Family dream – Owen, Shirley and son Doug – to transfer their severely disabled son – and brother – Glen home from the Oakwood State institution in Somerset, Ky.
Glen was a resident there from 2003-2005.
“Between the years 2003 and 2005, Boone County High School alumni – co-hosted by former National Football League star Shaun Alexander – raised $149,000 to support The Point Arc’s Advanced Care Home,” said Judi Gerding, President and Founder of the 54-year-old non-profit Covington-based agency.
“Their efforts were inspired by Coach Hauck,” she continued, “he had a dream to bring Glen home from the Oakwood State Institution.”
Glen passed after the third-year of fundraising, in 2005 – and the project was put on hold.
“Before Owen’s passing in 2016, we made a promise – to complete the home in honor of him, Glen, Shaun, his former players, and the Goal Line Slam Committee,” Gerding recalled.
That promise moved closer to reality when an anonymous donor gifted the 2.37-acre property where the home stands.
The Yung Family Foundation Advanced Care Home will provide specialized care, adaptive equipment, and accessible living spaces for six residents whose needs continue to evolve as they live longer, fuller lives.
Additionally, the new home is constructed with six-foot wide hallways – to accommodate wheelchairs – and accessible finishings.
The traditional ribbon-cutting is set for noon, Thursday, October 1st, and an Open House will be available Friday and Saturday – October 2nd and 3rd – from noon to 6 pm – and Sunday, October 4th from 10 am to 2 pm.
“The six residents will move into the new home between now and Thanksgiving,” Gerding said.
The Yung Family Foundation Advanced Care Home will be the 19th residential home under the umbrella of The Point Arc.
The Point Arc was founded in 1972 by a group of parents fighting for the educational rights of their children, who were diagnosed with an intellectual and developmental disability (I/DD). The mission – to help people with disabilities achieve their highest potential potential, socially, residentially and vocationally. More than this, The Point Arc has been an organization that identifies gaps in services and provides care and support to fill these gaps – even when government funding sources are not available.
