Fort Mitchell Mayor Greg Pohlgeers received a leadership award from the Kentucky League of Cities.
Dubbed the Ann C. Deatherage Leadership Enrichment and Development, or LEAD, Award, KLC “presents the award to a mayor who demonstrates a passion for public service and a commitment to lifelong learning,” according to the organization.
“I’m truly honored to receive the Mayor Ann C. Deatherage LEAD Award,” Pohlgeers said. “Leadership in local government is a continual learning process, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn from the people around me and from other leaders across Kentucky. Receiving an award that carries the name of Ann Deatherage makes this recognition especially meaningful, and I’m proud to accept it on behalf of the City of Fort Mitchell.”
The award is named after the late Carrollton Mayor Ann C. Deatherage, who died in 2020 and valued lifelong learning. Pohlgeers received the award at the KLC Conference and Expo in Covington last week.
Pohlgeers was appointed mayor of Fort Mitchell late last year after former Mayor Jude Hehman was appointed Kenton County Sheriff. He had previously served on the Fort Mitchell City Council since 2017.
“Mayor Pohlgeers understands that learning doesn’t stop when you take office,” said KLC Executive Director J.D. Chaney. “He asks questions, seeks out different perspectives, and works to ensure he has multiple perspectives before he puts what he learns to work. His willingness to engage with city officials and employees, and just as importantly, the public, makes him an exceptional example of the dedication and commitment this award and Mayor Deatherage represent.”
