Gold Star is proud to announce donations totaling more than $20,000 to three local nonprofit organizations, 1N5, Family Nurturing Center and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, following community-driven fundraising campaigns.
Gold Star presented a check in the amount of $5,750 to Cincinnati-based nonprofit 1N5. The donation followed the conclusion of Gold Star’s monthlong round-up campaign held throughout May in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month. Through the campaign, Gold Star partnered with 1N5 to support the organization’s mission of preventing suicide – the second leading cause of death among teens and young adults – by reducing the stigma and promoting mental wellness.
In support of the Family Nurturing Center, Gold Star also presented a $4,750 donation to the organization. The contribution followed the fundraising campaigns by local news personalities Ken Baker of FOX19 and Frank Marzullo of WCPO, who participated in the organization’s Prom Court as part of its Prom for a Purpose event. Gold Star supported both campaigns through fundraising efforts at its Florence and Covington restaurant locations, which donated portions of sales on designated days to benefit the Family Nurturing Center and its mission to end the cycle of child abuse in the region.
Gold Star also presented a donation of $10,000 to longstanding partner Cincinnati Children’s. Following a community round-up campaign held from June 8–21 across all Gold Star locations, the total contribution was further supported by Gold Star’s “Milkshake – For Children’s Sake!” initiative. Through this program, Gold Star donates a portion of sales from every milkshake purchase directly to Children’s. Combined, these efforts support Cincinnati Children’s mission to improve child health and transform care through integrated research, education and innovation. Additionally, Gold Star celebrated National Ice Cream Float Day on June 17 by hosting a special activation at Cincinnati Children’s, providing 100 complimentary ice cream floats to patients and their families.
“Giving back to the community is central to who we are as a company. It’s been a core value of ours for more than 60 years,” said Gold Star President and CEO Roger David. “We’re proud to partner with organizations like 1N5, the Family Nurturing Center and Cincinnati Children’s that are doing meaningful work to support families throughout our region. These campaigns demonstrate the power of community and what can be accomplished when people come together to support causes that make a real difference.”

ABOUT GOLD STAR
At Gold Star, we’ve been serving our guests delicious Cincinnati-style Chili since 1965 when the Daoud brothers bought a restaurant in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Mt. Washington. They wanted to make chili the right way: always fresh, never frozen and made in small batches to ensure quality. Crafted from our founders’ secret family recipe of 13 perfectly blended spices to make Cincinnati’s classic chili favorites the Cheese Coney, and 3-, 4- and 5-Way Chili Spaghetti. Our menu offers something to make everyone happy from fresh grilled-to-order burgers, southern-style chicken sandwiches, vegetarian chili, double-decker deli sandwiches to loaded French fries, hand-tossed salads and 100% real ice cream shakes. It may not be what you would expect from a neighborhood chili parlor, but we’re not big on labels anyway. We invite all of our guests to come as you are, like what you like, and follow your own recipe.
Today, Gold Star has more than 55 corporate- and franchise-owned locations throughout Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana and is actively developing new franchise opportunities in the region.
